Mickey Petersen
In the world of online poker there are not a lot of people who can match Mickey Petersen and the success that he has had. Although still a very young player Petersen has won almost everything there is to win in online tournaments. He has started to move into live games and has been successful but he still remains best known for his performances in online games.
Like a lot of young poker stars Mickey Petersen got his start playing other games. In his case he was a top player of Magic: The Gathering and actually played on the professional tour. It was well he was there that he got into online poker, mainly as the result of meeting other players who were doing the same thing. Initially Peterson had planned to only take a year off of school to play Magic before returning to his native Denmark to go to university. However once he discovered online poker his plans changed. He realized that there was a lot of money to made at poker and decided that this would be his career.
In the beginning Mickey Petersen focused exclusively on playing in online tournaments. He would later start to play cash games as well but for the most part he was a tournament player. He would have a great deal of success in online tournaments winning hundreds of thousands of dollars and all of the most prestigious online tournaments. This success would encourage him to start playing in live tournaments where he would also find a great deal of success.
Most of Mickey Petersen's live play has been on the European Poker Tour where has now put up several money finishes. His biggest success however came in his hometown as he would win the Copenhagen round of the EPT in 2012. While he has been successful in live tournaments he still largely prefers to play in online tournaments so this is where he has focused the main thrust of his career. Of course this may have something to do with the fact that he has only recently become old enough to play in tournaments in the US. Now that he can enter the biggest live tournaments he may start to take them more seriously.
Mickey Petersen has a chance to become one of the real stars of poker, if he chooses to of course. He can continue to make a good living while remaining relatively unknown playing the online games if he wants to. If he really wants to become a huge poker star however he will have to start to focus on the live games. Given the success that he has had in them already the chances that he will be very successful are quite high. It is just a question of what he wants out of his career.
