Matthias De Meulder
Matthias De Meulder is part of the generation of poker stars. He is a young player who got his start playing online. He has slowly started to transition into live games but he still focuses primarily on games online as that is where he has had has greatest success. Nevertheless it is quite likely that in the not too distant future he will be having regular success in live games.
Matthias De Meulder has been in the public eye since he was a child. Along with his twin brother he started hosting a television show in Belgium when he was ten years old. The show ran for three years and gave De Meulder his first taste of fame. After the show went off the air he finished high school and enrolled in university where he completed a degree in Latin languages. He is currently enrolled in a post graduate program at the University of Antwerp working towards a degree in Political Science.
Matthias De Meulder got his start in the world of poker when he was introduced to the game by his friends. It did not take long before he realized that he was pretty good at it. Most of his early poker experience was online, mainly because when he started he was still too young to go into casinos. These days he is still largely known as an online player. He has had considerable success playing in online tournaments. He is also a member of the Poker Stars team and plays in cash games on their site on a regular basis where he is a well known player.
Over the last few years De Meulder has started to transition into live tournaments. So far his results have been fairly modest with a few cash finishes and a couple of wins in minor tournaments. He has finished in the money a couple of times at World Series of Poker events as well as in a couple of European Poker Tour events. So far his results in live events have not matched what he has done online but this is to be expected it takes most online players time to adapt to playing in live games. De Meulder will need time to learn the live game before judgment can be passed on this results.
Just how good of a player Matthias De Meulder can become is open to debate; he is still early in his career. There are certainly signs that he could be a great player if he chooses to be, the question however is whether or not he will choose to be. Unlike a lot of top poker players there is a lot going on in his life, it remains to be seen just how seriously he is going to take poker after he has finished school.
