Jonathan Duhamel

Jonathan Duhamel burst onto the poker scene in 2010 when he won the World Series of Poker in 2010. It was the first win of his career and it made him famous almost overnight. Since then he has become a regular on the European Poker Tour where he has won a couple of events but he has so far not had another win at the World Series of Poker.

Jonathan Duhamel was born and raised in a small town just outside of Montreal which is where he first started to play poker with family and friends. It was while he was attending university in Montreal however that he first started to take the game seriously. It did not take him long to realize that he was pretty good at it so he dropped out of school in order to pursue a career as a professional poker player.

After making the decision to play poker professionally Duhamel had to make a decision on how to move forward in his career. He had success in cash games but the opportunities for these around Montreal were somewhat limited so he made the choice to start playing in tournaments. This was going to require leaving Montreal but since he was still too young to play in the United States he had to head over to Europe where he got his start on the European Poker Tour.

After having some small successes on the EPT Duhamel returned to North America when he turned twenty one so that he could play in the World Series of Poker. His first couple of tries were not particularly successful but he really broke through in 2010 when he won the main event. He would return the next year and finish in the money in a couple of other events but he has so far not matched the success that he had in 2010.

One of the downsides of being a well known poker player is that it can make you a target which unfortunately happened to Duhamel in 2011. He was robbed and badly beaten in a violent home invasion robbery that was apparently planned by his ex-girlfriend. A large sum of money and other valuables were taken and although three people have been arrested only about half of the money has been recovered.

The jury is still out on Jonathon Duhamel as a poker player, he has after all only won a single major event. Sure it was the biggest event in the world but until he repeats it with another major success there will always be a feeling that his win was down more t luck than to anything else. He is still young of course so there is lots of time for him to show just how good he really is.
