Is poker the same as blackjack and/or roulette?

A lot of people think of poker as being just another form of gambling, like blackjack or roulette. There is however an important difference between the games and this difference is the reason that poker has become so much more popular than the other games in the casino. Poke is obviously not the same as blackjack and roulette as they are very different games played with different rules. Roulette doesn't even use cards after all. While these differences are pretty obvious there are some other important differences that you are going to want to keep in mind as well. While there is certainly an element of skill involved in blackjack and roulette the fact is that skill does not usually change the odds in your favor. The best that you can do is to play the perfect strategy in blackjack for example so that the odds against you do not get any longer. The odds will however remain in favor of the casino. It may be possible to change the odds into your favor by counting cards but this is considered to be cheating and is very difficult to do. Even than the odds are only slightly in your favor. With poker skill plays a much bigger role.

Make no mistake when you play poker luck will be a major factor, however in most cases the better player will win. This makes the game very different from other forms of gambling. By practicing your skills at poke you can greatly improve your odds.

The reason that skill is so much more of a factor in poker is actually because of one of the other big differences between poker and the other games. That difference is that in poker you play against other players, in most other games you play against the casino. The result is that the casino really doesn't care who wins in a poker game and therefore do not have to make sure that the odds are in their favor.

The fact that poker is a game in which skill is a major factor is a big part of why it is s popular. People are well aware that the odds are against them in a casino and that there is nothing that they can do to change those odds. This is not the case at poker, if you work hard enough at learning the game you can in fact turn the odds in your favor and win more than you lose.
